Humble heroes: the hidden world of hedgerows and their wildlife – 20th July 2022

July 20, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Event focus:
,
Hedgerow

Join us to learn more about the incredible world of hedgerows. From nesting birds to hibernating hedgehogs, well-managed hedges can provide abundant resources for much of our wildlife. They form a key component of our natural heritage and provide many key ecosystem services and functions. Yet, to maintain a healthy hedgerow network into the future, we need to manage hedgerows according to their natural lifecycle.

In this talk we will cover:

  • The importance of hedgerows to wildlife and humans
  • The key features of a healthy hedge
  • The connection between hedgerow management and political and cultural shifts in society
  • Threats that hedgerows have faced in the past and currently face
  • The natural hedgerow lifecycle and an introduction to healthy hedgerow management
  • An introduction to People’s Trust for Endangered Species hedgerow surveys.

Speaker: PTES Hedgerow Officer, Sarah Barnsley

Date: Wednesday 20th July 2022

Time: 7:00pm – 8:30pm

Cost: Tickets are free but we suggest a donation of £5 to help towards our conservation work.
