National Water Vole Conference-16th January 2027
Water voles have suffered one of the most severe declines of any British mammal. But across Great Britain, experts and enthusiasts are rewriting their story and working to bring them back. This conference is a fantastic opportunity to hear their fascinating work and meet the people behind it.
We are very lucky to welcome some of the most experienced water vole practitioners and researchers as our speakers. They include leading experts from ecological consultancies, landscape-scale species recovery projects, captive breeding programmes, American mink projects, conservation charities including Essex Wildlife Trust, RSPB, and Wild Cymru, researchers and statutory nature conservation bodies. Together we will trace the history of water voles in Britain and tackle some of the big questions we are facing with water vole conservation. Is a mink-free Britain within sight? What does a secure future for water voles actually look like? What does effective water vole mitigation look like? How do you plan a water vole translocation? What is genetics telling us? Do water voles really need water? And how many water voles are enough water voles?
This is a day for everyone with a professional or personal interest in water voles. Get the most up-to-date picture of how water voles are faring, what is working, and how we can all help.
