Summer Pruning – half day  14th & 21st July

This half day summer pruning course will introduce you to pruning apple and plum trees and cover basic techniques and methods to start you pruning at home. The course mainly focuses on trained trees including espaliers, cordons and fans. The course is largely practical and outside allowing “hands on” practice and question time. The half day covers the basics needed for an introduction to pruning your fruit trees. The half days run in a morning and afternoon session so you can chose a suitable time for you.

About the Instructor

John Easton joined East Malling Research Station in 1964, following seven years in commercial fruit growing and was within the group assisting scientists in growing and maintaining trials, whilst keeping up-to-date with new developments. After two years at Hadlow College he returned to East Malling as Experiments Officer, subsequently transferring to the nursery as Technical Co-ordinator. John became the Nursery manager in 1978 and then added the post of Glasshouse manager in 1978. He retired in 2000 but continues to train staff in horticultural skills and advises on pruning and related issues.
