Conservation Day – Lady Gilbert’s Orchard

June 15, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Join The Orchard Project at Lady Gilbert’s Orchard for a day of orchard maintenance

Planted around 100 years ago, this orchard was home to the librettist WS Gilbert and his wife. It includes two extremely rare apple varieties! There are also some more recently planted fruit trees.

Jobs include pruning the young stone fruits, clearing weeds round the base of fruit tree trunks, removing ash and birch saplings, propping up the branch of an old apple tree, etc.
Tools and gloves are provided. Meet in the orchard, or ask at Grim’s Dyke Hotel’s reception.
