Community Orchard Maintenance Workshop (including pruning) – new date

March 20, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 3:30 pm

This one day workshop is aimed at people who care for community orchards, especially those planted in the last 5 years. The emphasis will be on pruning and care of apple trees but can be applied to pear trees too. There will also be a focus on how to protect the trees and management of the growing environment. (Please note, this one day course will not cover the establishment of new orchards.)

£50 per person

No previous experience of fruit tree pruning required.

All courses are socially distanced and Covid-aware.

Subjects included will be:

Assessment of tree health and habit.

Identifying structural problems that will affect the future stability of the tree.

Planning future pruning in subsequent years.

Types of guard, staking and their problems.

Sward management.
