Clovelly Apple Day

October 24, 2018 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm

Apple day at Clovelly is celebrated as part of our events diary. Its Apple Season! Consequently we are holding our Apple Day with lots of lovely apple crafts and activities.

On arrival at Clovelly (children under 7 years old enter free) apples are pressed just outside the visitor centre by Gatcombe valley Juices.  So why not bring a bag of apples with you. Watch the apples being pressed, then taste the fresh juice. Alternatively you can bring more with you. We will press them, then pasteurise and bottle them for you. We make a small charge for this service (£1.90 per 75 cl bottle).

There are Apple crafts and activities in the Visitor Centre from 12:00-17:00. The rounded shapes of the great reds and greens make the apples perfect for creating many art projects. Enjoy Apple Art with the help of the The Plough arts centre. Hence you can choose to carve, sculpt, decorate or do all three. The choice is yours. If art isn’t your thing we also have live music, apple bobbing, apple stamping and making corn dollies.

Isabella Necessity on her Story Bicycle. Isabella is a cycling botanist who loves sharing tales of her incredible journeys around the world. Hence she met fascinating people along the way. She tells stories of her orchard escapades along with snippets of apple folklore.  Consequently her tales are fascinating: flying with the blue butterflies of Brazil in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest. Outwitting trolls in the fjords of Norway. Learning Kung-Fu on the Mountain of Kunyu. Resting in a robin’s nest on Dartmoor.  Isabella will quickly whisk you into her amazing world.

New this year is a small farmers market. This includes stalls that include the pick of pumpkins, fresh local vegetables and herbs. And a wonderful array of meats that you can cook either without or in cider.  The WI will be judging our first Apple Pie/Crumble competition as well as selling their special homemade cakes.
