Cider and Song Festival at the Museum of East Anglian Life

October 18, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - October 19, 2019 @ 11:00 pm

Saturday 19 October, 10am-11pm, with a special preview on Friday night 7-11pm for cider tasting and music

The museum comes alive for apple day!

THINGS TO TASTE…

Cider-drinkers and apple aficionados can sample from our range of specialist craft ciders and apple juices. There will be a preview on the Friday night with flights of cider and a special tutored tasting session with food (book ahead for this) and a bar all day on the Saturday.

Apple experts from Orchards East and the Suffolk Traditional Orchards Group will be on hand to identify your apples, show a range of different varieties and answer your questions.

Enjoy demonstrations of apple and fruit cookery from food historian Monica Askay.

Try apple-based cakes, pies and treats including Dutch Appelgebak.

Applewood-smoked meat will be provided by Smokey Jones and a variety of treats from Cabbages & Kings.

THINGS TO SEE…
The Nutmeg Puppet Company will present Apple Pip, a show for 3-6 year olds, with storytelling, exquisite puppets, an atmospheric set, original music and songs to join in with.

Enjoy a range of music performances to suit all tastes including the Rogue Shanty Buoys – a shanty crew from Lowestoft – Suffolk’s own Quay Street Whalers and the Company of Horham Old School – a collective of singers, players and dancers.

Witness the planting of the first tree in the museum’s new Heritage Farm orchard, which will be open from spring. We are planting 67 new trees and creating a new animal and crops area as part of our new attraction.

See a thrashing demonstration with our newly-restored historic steam engine, The Empress of Britain.

The Ferguson Club will be at the museum displaying historic tractors all day on Saturday.

THINGS TO DO…
Learn a drinking song at one of our song workshops for use later in the day.

Have a go at making a traditional jig doll dance with the East Anglian Traditional Music Trust who will be running drop-in workshops.

Learn the rudiments of melodeon-playing in a Melodeon Taster workshop with the East Anglian Traditional Music Trust. We have child-size and adult-size melodeons available.

Make some juice to take home – bring your own apples and Maynard House will juice them for you. Bottles will be on sale or bring your own.

Buy your own tree at the plant stands or shop the craft stands.

Test your archery skills at our William Tell experience, courtesy of Reach the Core!

Apple-based craft activities and story-time. Make your own apple pig to take home.
