Brimstage Hall Orchard Heritage Open Day

September 19, 2021 @ 10:30 am - 4:00 pm

The Orchard, Brimstage Hall, Brimstage Road, Wirral, Merseyside, CH63 6JA

A guided walk round a traditional orchard, pick/taste heritage varieties of apple, pear and plum. Visitors can bring their own apples to crush in a reconstructed 18th century cider press, make juice or cider to take away. Information & advice given about planting, tree care, bees, orchard crafts, whittling, basket making and orchard frivolities, from Wassails to quaffing cider.

Brimstage Hall is thought to be the oldest building in Wirral. It has a long history of domestic orchards on site and the current orchard was planned to recapture a past layout with heritage apples, pears, plums, cob-nuts, damsons and hedgerow fruits. We teach orchard skills to encourage other local and community orchards. The Wirral Tree Wardens are part of a national scheme concerned with tree protection, conservation, planting, rewilding while working with communities, schools and other organizations to promote better appreciation and understanding of our rich tree heritage
