Alternative Apple Day at Burghley House

The Burghley House Preservation Trust have kindly agreed to host Stamford Community Orchard Group’s Alternative Apple Day.

• Walled garden tours

• The history of the walled garden

• The local varieties of apples

• Botanical illustrations of local fruit trees

• Some tips and techniques of fruit tree management

• Sales of SCOG cards and publications

This will be the first formal chance for visitors to see the recently restored walled garden which is one of the oldest and largest in the country. There will also be a chance to see the large range of fruit and nut trees in the garden, including the 100 m. long apple arch, the many pear, plum and apple espaliers, the walnut grove and cobnut plat.

Coffee and tea will be available, and picnics can be taken on the large internal lawns. 

All efforts have been made to ensure that the event fully conforms to Government guidance on Covid.
