Golden langurs are considered one of the 25 most endangered primates on the planet.Mother and baby golden langur. Golden langurs are considered sacred by Himalayan people.Western hoolock gibbons are threatened with habitat loss and hunting throughout their range.Male western hoolock gibbons are black with distinctive eyebrow-like stripes above their eyes, whereas females are much lighter in colour, usually beige.Jihosuo and his team involve the local community, as well as forest staff to implement a community based gibbon monitoring programme in the newly created Dehing-Patkai National Park.A training workshop for forest rangers to develop a management plan for Dehing-Patkai National Park.Training forest rangers on SMART monitoring of western hoolock gibbons and Bengal slow lorises in the national park.Engaging with the local community through running education sessions on primate conservation in local schools.As part of the school sessions, children are encouraged to dress up as gibbons to engage them with these special primates.The team installing an innovative wildlife bridge to help golden langurs safely cross roads.Raising awareness about golden langurs in the local communities and villages.One of the community plantations where seedlings are grown that are then planted to restore natural corridors between forest fragments to provide new routes for golden langurs to move safely through the landscape.With their black faces and flowing coats, golden langurs are one of the worlds most striking and beautiful monkeys.Developing a management plan for the newly created Dehing-Patkai National Park is one of the key aims of the project over the next five years.Western hoolock gibbons form monogamous pairs and sing in unison to mark their territory.Jihosuo and his team are working to establish the population status of western hoolock gibbons in the newly created Dehing-Patkai National Park.70% of the Indian population of Western hoolock gibbons are found in Assam, where Jiohosuo and his team are working.
