DESCRIPTION:Join MSOG’s Andy Howard for a day’s training course\, to learn the theory\, skills and practice of winter pruning for fruit trees such as apple\, pear\, quince and medlar. Discover the different methods and techniques used to shape fruit trees\, control their size and influence their productivity. Find out when and how to apply these to suit different circumstances and different types of top fruit. Learn the difference between winter and summer pruning and when and how to prune pip fruit like apples and pears and stone fruit like plums and cherries. DESCRIPTION:Join Andy Howard\, experienced fruit tree pruner and owner of the Heritage Fruit Tree Company\, for a day’s training course to learn the theory and practice of winter pruning on site in Warwickshire. \nThis Course will take place at George Browning: Feldon Forest Farm\, at Frankton\, Rugby\, Warks\, CV23 9PD. \nGeorge has an orchard with a variety of younger and older trees\, in varying states of pruning need with different types\, including tip bearers\, so you will be to be able to see different strategies of pruning utilised on site . \nLearn the theory\, skills and practice of winter pruning for fruit trees such as apple and pear. Discover the different methods and techniques used to shape fruit trees\, control their size and influence their productivity. Find out when and how to apply these to suit different circumstances and different types of top fruit. SUMMARY:Summer Field Trip & Safari Supper
DESCRIPTION:By kind permission of member George Browning\, this year’s Summer Field Trip will see our return to Warwickshire\, for a visit to Feldon Forest Farm near Rugby. Here the Brown family husband their heritage fruit orchards and heirloom vegetables\, grow organic crops and raise rare breed livestock. Our hosts will lead us on a guided tour of their farm\, orchards and environmental projects and we will end with a communal picnic together. Please bring a picnic supper with enough for yourselves and a ‘little something extra’ to share\, whether sweet or savoury. Home-grown or home-made treats are welcomed! \nOur planned itinerary is as follows: \n2.00pm – arrival\, meet & greet \n2.20pm – 2.40pm – introduction \n2.40pm – 4.40pm – tour the farm and orchards \n4.40pm – 6.00pm – communal supper \n6.00pm – departure \n  \nPlease note: As the visit is to a working farm with livestock\, we’ll not invite our canine friends to join us on this occasion\, other than well-behaved Assistance or Medical dogs. \nPrice: A collective donation for our hosts\, to support their valuable conservation work \nContact: Email Claire at: MSOGChairman@yahoo.com to find out more and confirm attendance
