Help endangered wildlife by raising funds

Fancy challenging your body or mind and want to help wildlife at the same time? Or maybe you’re looking for ways to raise some extra funds for us in other ways. We have plenty of ideas and resources to help you fundraise for us.

You’ll be making a real difference to endangered wildlife and raising awareness at the same time. And what’s more, you can raise money in a way that suits you best, whether you’re a runner, a baker or looking to donate while you shop, we have plenty of suggestions for you.

The money you raise could help us unlock conservation problems, protect and rebuild wild habitats or even release species back into the wild.

Children – fundraising for young wildlife lovers, parents, guardians and group leaders

Whether you’re fundraising by yourself, with your family or with your school, scout or brownie pack, we have loads of ideas and resources to help you raise money for animals in need. Don’t forget to take photos of your fundraising event – we love to feature pictures of our junior fundraisers in our magazine. And once you’ve told us how your event went and sent in your hard-earned funds, we can send you a special certificate! But most importantly you’ll be helping wild animals. Remember to be safe, and always have an adult supervising your challenge.

+ Here are some ideas to get you going

  • Host a bake sale! This is very popular with our junior wildlife enthusiasts: Bake cakes to sell to friends and family, or at school. You could even make your cakes look like the wild animals you’re helping! Find some inspiration for your bakes with these hedgehog cakes.
  • Host your own cooking or craft channel. Is there something you’re really good at? With help from your grownups, host your own show by recording your skills and getting your friends to watch, or follow your step-by-step tutorial. You could do this over a video call, YouTube or WhatsApp, and get donations per view!
  • Sponsored challenge. Set yourself a goal and ask people to sponsor you to achieve it. You can set up your sponsored challenge on JustGiving, but if you don’t want to do that, you can also raise your funds and pay them in here. You can do anything you like, but we’ve thought of a few for you:

The dormouse challenge – dormice hibernate for months in winter. Can you make a nest like a dormouse and stay curled up for an hour, or even more? You’ll be nice and cosy, but the challenge is to stay as quiet as a dormouse the whole time (although did you know they snore?). Create your fundraising page here

The mountain hare challenge – mountain hares dart uphill for 50m very fast if they sense danger. How many times can you sprint uphill really fast? Get people to sponsor you £1 for every uphill sprint! Create your fundraising page here

The hedgehog challenge – did you know hedgehogs travel about a mile at night looking for food? Can you walk/run a mile every day for a week? You could make it even harder by carrying a weighted rucksack. Create your fundraising page here

The water vole challenge – did you know water voles can eat 80% of their bodyweight in a day? They mainly eat grasses and rushes. You really shouldn’t attempt to eat 80% of your bodyweight in grass, but can you eat only plant-based food for a week, or a month? Create your fundraising page here

Or just make up your own challenge! It can be anything you like… Create your fundraising page here

+ Junior PTES Challenge

It’s really easy to set up your challenge. Add your own personal fundraiser to our Junior PTES Challenge, which is already set up for you on our JustGiving page. Just click on the orange ‘Start fundraising’ button and let everyone know what you’re doing to help wildlife!

+ How to set up your fundraising, and pay in your funds!

  1. Choose your challenge or event and set your goal.
  2. Set up your fundraising page on PTES Challenge JustGiving page, it’s really quick and easy.
  3. Tell your family and friends what you’ll be doing and why they should support you! You could do this by using these posters (I’m raising money, overseas wildlife, UK wildlife), this sponsorship form, and our ‘wildlife mission statement’ leaflet. Take photos of you doing your challenge so you can show everyone how you’re getting along, or send them to us so we can feature you in our supporter magazine Wildlife World!
  4. Collect your donations. If you’re doing this through JustGiving we’ll get your donations automatically and your sponsors will be sent a thank you. If not, you can pay your funds in on this form here.
  5. Let us know how you did! Whatever your goal, we can send you a certificate once you’ve completed your challenge.

Fundraising

Thank you so much for thinking of raising funds for PTES and endangered species. We have lots of ideas for you to choose from, or you can come up with your own! Have a look below for fundraising ideas, whether it be from the comfort of your home, or out and about. Or you could raise funds from something that you’re an expert at, or if you’re trying out a new skill. Whatever your challenge, any donations you raise will help wildlife and their habitats.

+ Fundraise from the comfort of your own home

You can raise funds to help animals that are losing their homes, all from the comfort of yours. You can make the challenge personal to you and your skills, but here are some ideas:

  • Cycling. Set yourself a goal on an exercise bike – what about doing a nocturnal cycle for hibernating animals.
  • In June 2021 we released our 1000th dormouse into the wild. Can you do 1,000 squats, 1,000 press ups or maybe 1,000 minutes on the treadmill (that’s 16 hrs) in a week? Film it and tag us on social media and we can see who else is up for the challenge!
  • How about challenging yourself to achieve a particular yoga pose in 15 days? The monkey pose, flying crow or peacock pose?
  • Bit of a gamer? Or got one in the family? Enjoy your favourite pastime and help wildlife at the same time. Set yourself a challenge on your favourite game such as reaching a certain level or goal. Ask your gaming community to support you and donate if you reach your chosen goal. You can even stream on Twitch so others can see how you’re doing. By setting up a JustGiving page, you can easily send them the donate link.
  • Challenge yourself mentally Host a quiz for family, friends or workmates and charge them – either to enter or as penalties for each answer they get wrong!

+ Get your garden involved in your fundraising!

If you have a garden, you could take your physical challenge outside and help wildlife at the same time.

  • Do 5/10k without leaving your garden. You might have seen other people doing 5 or 10 k in their garden. But here’s the extra bit- every kilometre, you stop for 15 minutes and work on a wildlife friendly garden feature. By the end, you’ll have run 10km, worked for 2 and a half hours on a garden feature and then you can finally put your feet up and watch the wildlife appreciate your work – you could dig a pond, build a bat box, make a hedgehog house, build a log pyramid or plant a tree!
  • Have a gardening competition. Challenge your friends to a fruit and veg growing competition. Who can grow the tallest sunflower, the biggest courgette, or the most chillies? Set up a PTES Garden Challenge WhatsApp group, set the challenges and deadline date. On competition day, measure your produce and those not in winning place donate to PTES (though winners can donate too!). And even better you’ll have lots of tasty food for yourself, and your garden wildlife will benefit from the fruits of your labour. Make sure you have a hedgehog hole in your fence – a handy hedgehog will keep the slugs at bay.

+ Out and about

Be with nature and raise money for it at the same time.

  • Virtual long distance race – pick a long distance goal like a half marathon or even the 1,083 miles from John o’ Groats to Land’s End and complete the trip in parts, racking up miles on your daily walks. You don’t have to do it alone – get your friends to join you and create a virtual team. The limit is up to you!
  • Outdoor pursuits – Maybe cold water swimming or hill-walking is more your thing. Whatever your hobby, set yourself a goal, monitor your progress and ask people to donate when you hit your target. Or find an organised event near you.

+ PTES Challenge

It’s really easy to set up your challenge. Add your own personal fundraiser to our PTES Challenge, which is already set up on our JustGiving page. Just click on the orange ‘Start fundraising’ button and let everyone know what you’re doing to help wildlife!

+ Give in celebration

Birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, celebrating the life of a loved one – all events that are important to us. Some people chose to give to charity to commemorate special occasions. You could ask friends to donate to a Facebook birthday fundraisers, or you can set up an event on our JustGiving page.

+ Saving money or spending money, you can still fundraise for us!

  • Declutter and raise funds. Use the opportunity for a spring clear-out and let some of your less loved items get a new lease of life. Sell things you no longer need on eBay or at a car boot sale and donate some of the proceeds to PTES. You’ll be helping the environment by selling things for second hand use, making space and money for yourself, and raising funds for us all at the same time! Find us on eBay here
  • Got a hobby, talent or business? Put your special skills to good use and host a masterclass. Ask your friends or followers to donate to PTES to learn a new skill, whether that be pottery, painting, or a special recipe! Give all participants your JustGiving fundraising link and you won’t even have to collect the money yourself!
  • Fundraise via your business. We love to partner with small businesses who are looking to help wildlife via their everyday work. If you have a venture and are interested in partnering with us by donating a percentage of your sales to help endangered species, please get in touch here.
  • PayPal giving. We’re registered for the PayPal Giving fund. This allows you to donate on PayPal, eBay and other online platforms. So next time you see the option to donate – think of us!
  • Support our corporate partners. Did you know we have many wonderful small businesses and corporate partners? These kind people give us a donation when you buy their items – have a look here.
  • Shop to donate. Choose from a wide range of gifts in our online shop. Or visit our pop-up shop at 86 High St, Egham, Surrey, TW20 9HF, where you can buy and donate items. 100% of profits go towards our conservation projects here in the UK and overseas.
