Dormouse Ecology, Conservation and Woodland Management Course

June 25 @ 10:00 am - 4:30 pm

We will look at the ecology of dormice, their conservation and relevant legislation. We will also consider woodland management for the species with appropriate examples in the woodland on the Reserve. In addition we will check some dormouse boxes at Briddlesford and we would expect to see dormice.

This course is an excellent first step for those wishing to get involved in dormouse conservation and it is recommended as a first step for those wishing to train for their dormouse license. It will not, however, provide you with a reference for your dormouse license application.

Tutor: PTES Dormouse and Training Officer Ian White. Please email ian.white@ptes.org for further details.

Itinerary: This is a one day course on the Isle of Wight, running from 10am to 4.30pm with tea and meal breaks as appropriate. Please note that attendees will be collected from, and returned to West Cowes where the Red Jet can be boarded. Cars can be left at Southampton and so there will be no need to take a car to the Island. The Red Jet leaves Southampton at 8.45 and the journey takes 25 minutes; the minibus will leave West Cowes at 9.30am to go to the Briddlesford Reserve and return in the evening for either the 16.45 or 17.15 sailing.

Costs: This one day course costs £85 (travel to the Isle of Wight and food are not included in the course fee; collection from West Cowes to Briddlesford and return to West Cowes is included in the course fee)
